Klipsch · Horn-loaded · 1959–1985 (Cornwall II from 1985)
Paul Klipsch designed the Cornwall in 1959 as a fuller-range center speaker than the Heresy, to sit between two widely spaced Klipschorns. It made its debut at the New York Audio Fair, where a naming contest picked Cornwall because it could go in a corner or against a wall. It's a vented box with a direct-radiating 15-inch K-33 woofer, a K-55 midrange driver on the K-600 horn and a K-77 tweeter. The earliest Cornwalls used Electro-Voice and Jensen components before Klipsch's own drivers took over, which matters if you're after an all-original pair. The first version ran until 1985, when the Cornwall II arrived with every driver mounted from the front and a back you can't remove. It's a big, heavy speaker, so work out how you'll move a pair before you buy one.
With the grille off
Ask for a photo of every driver with the grilles off, on both speakers. They should match each other and this list.
Replacement midrange drivers and 15-inch woofers are sold for the Cornwall, and the crossovers differ by generation, so a mixed pair is easy to end up with. Ask which drivers and crossovers are original.
New to old speakers? How to check a used pair walks through every driver, the crossover and the cabinet.
We haven’t been through this model’s listings yet. Search eBay and run every listing through the checklist above. Ask for photos of both speakers with the grilles off and the serial labels on the back, and pass on any seller who won’t send them.
