Klipsch · Horn-loaded · 1985–2006
In 1985 Klipsch made changes and improvements to the Heresy and re-released it as the Heresy II, and it stayed in the line until the Heresy III replaced it in 2006. That's a 21-year run from the same Hope, Arkansas, factory. It keeps the original's layout of a 12-inch woofer below a horn-loaded midrange and a horn tweeter in a small box. The easy way to tell a II from an original is the back. On a Heresy II the back isn't removable and every driver mounts through the front of the cabinet, and you reach the crossover through the rear input cup. The Heresy III's upgrades, a stronger woofer, bi-wire terminals and titanium-diaphragm compression drivers, tell you what a II doesn't have, which helps when a listing just says Heresy.
With the grille off
Ask for a photo of every driver with the grilles off, on both speakers. They should match each other and this list.
Rebuild kits for the crossover and replacement diaphragms for the midrange driver are sold for this model, so many pairs have had work. Ask what was done and when, and make sure both speakers got the same parts.
New to old speakers? How to check a used pair walks through every driver, the crossover and the cabinet.
We haven’t been through this model’s listings yet. Search eBay and run every listing through the checklist above. Ask for photos of both speakers with the grilles off and the serial labels on the back, and pass on any seller who won’t send them.
