Advent · Bookshelf · Late 1970s
The Advent/2 is one of the later models in Advent's family of two-ways, which also took in the Advent Loudspeaker, the Smaller Advent, the New Advent and the Advent/3. Like the rest, it came from the Massachusetts company Henry Kloss founded in 1967, which went bankrupt in 1981. Dealer listings describe it with an 8.5-inch woofer and two tweeters. We couldn't confirm that from a factory source, so treat it as something to check in the photos rather than a fact. We couldn't confirm its years or ratings either, and some old descriptions of it contradict each other. What we can tell you is how to buy one, since every speaker this age has the same weak spots: the woofer surrounds, the tweeters, and the cabinet's corners and edges. A pair in clean, matching condition is the one to buy.
Dealers who restore them report replacing the woofers' foam surrounds, so expect that on an unrestored pair. Check every tweeter, since there may be two per speaker.
New to old speakers? How to check a used pair walks through every driver, the crossover and the cabinet.
We haven’t been through this model’s listings yet. Search eBay and run every listing through the checklist above. Ask for photos of both speakers with the grilles off and the serial labels on the back, and pass on any seller who won’t send them.
