Advent followed its first speaker with the Smaller Advent Loudspeaker, and from then on the original picked up the name Larger Advent. Like the rest of the family it's a two-way, built in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and sold in walnut veneer or in a vinyl-covered utility cabinet that Advent said sounded the same. Owners on collector forums say it performs about the same as the big one in a smaller room, which is opinion rather than a spec. We couldn't find a factory sheet with its dates, driver sizes or ratings, so this page sticks to what's sourced and leaves the numbers out. Judge a pair by its condition, and use the grille-off photos to check that the two speakers' drivers match each other. If you want the full story of the family, start with the Advent Loudspeaker.
The original Advent's woofer used a foam surround, so ask whether this pair's woofers have been redone. A pair can also mix a veneer cabinet with a vinyl one, so check that both match.
New to old speakers? How to check a used pair walks through every driver, the crossover and the cabinet.
We haven’t been through this model’s listings yet. Search eBay and run every listing through the checklist above. Ask for photos of both speakers with the grilles off and the serial labels on the back, and pass on any seller who won’t send them.
