Advent · Bookshelf · Late 1970s
The New Advent Loudspeaker followed the original Advent Loudspeaker in the late 1970s and kept the two-way layout that made the first one famous. By then Henry Kloss had left to start Kloss Video, so it wasn't his revision, whatever a listing says. Advent closed its Cambridge factory in 1979 and moved production to New Hampshire, then went bankrupt in 1981, which puts this model near the end of the original company's run. Like the rest of the family it came in walnut veneer or a vinyl utility cabinet. We couldn't find a factory spec sheet for it, so check the drivers in the seller's photos rather than trusting a listing's numbers, and compare the two speakers driver by driver. The Advent Loudspeaker page covers the family's history in full.
With no confirmed spec sheet, the condition of the pair is what you're buying. Ask about the woofer surrounds, make sure both tweeters play, and check the cabinet edges.
New to old speakers? How to check a used pair walks through every driver, the crossover and the cabinet.
We haven’t been through this model’s listings yet. Search eBay and run every listing through the checklist above. Ask for photos of both speakers with the grilles off and the serial labels on the back, and pass on any seller who won’t send them.
