The M150 is the dressed-up version of Winslow Burhoe's original EPI module. It's the same idea as the M100, an 8-inch two-way, but where the 100 came in vinyl or veneer, EPI built the M150 in real walnut veneer with solid walnut and brass accents. It belongs to the early-1970s classic line with the M prefix, alongside the M50 Mite, the M100, the two-module M201, M202 and M250, and the M400, M601, M602 and M1000. Some listings call it the EPI 150 and give it a 10-inch woofer, but EPI's own list says 8 inches. That list doesn't name its tweeter, and EPI's two-ways of the period were built around Burhoe's inverted dome, so check that both tweeters match each other in the photos.
With the grille off
Ask for a photo of every driver with the grilles off, on both speakers. They should match each other and this list.
The brass and walnut trim is what sets an M150 apart, so check that it's all there. Beyond that, the woofer surrounds and the tweeters are the parts that age.
New to old speakers? How to check a used pair walks through every driver, the crossover and the cabinet.
We haven’t been through this model’s listings yet. Search eBay and run every listing through the checklist above. Ask for photos of both speakers with the grilles off and the serial labels on the back, and pass on any seller who won’t send them.
