The EPI 110 belongs to Epicure's late-1970s line, the models that came after Winslow Burhoe's early M-series and mostly wore walnut-grain vinyl instead of veneer. It's an 8-inch two-way, sold as the 110 and the 110C. Some listings call it a 1973 update of the EPI 100, but EPI's own model list puts it later, among the 70, 90, 101, 105, 120, 140, 180, 200 and 240. Don't confuse it with the A110 of the 1980s, also an 8-inch two-way in walnut vinyl, or with the 110 Series 3 of the early 1990s, a small white wall-mount speaker. EPI's list doesn't say which tweeter the 110 used, so look at it in the photos. The classic Burhoe inverted dome dips inward.
With the grille off
Ask for a photo of every driver with the grilles off, on both speakers. They should match each other and this list.
We couldn't find a spec sheet for the 110, so judge a pair by its condition. Check the woofer surrounds, make sure both tweeters play, and look at the vinyl's corners and edges for peeling.
New to old speakers? How to check a used pair walks through every driver, the crossover and the cabinet.
We haven’t been through this model’s listings yet. Search eBay and run every listing through the checklist above. Ask for photos of both speakers with the grilles off and the serial labels on the back, and pass on any seller who won’t send them.
