Infinity · Bookshelf · c.1987–1988
The RS 1000 is the small end of Infinity's late-1980s RS series, which ran from the RS 1000 up to the RS 6000. Despite the letters, it isn't part of the early-1980s Reference Standard line with its EMIT and EMIM planar drivers. Listings describe it as a two-way bookshelf speaker, and its closest documented sibling, the RS 2000, is a sealed two-way with a 6.5-inch polypropylene woofer and a 3-centimeter dome tweeter, rated at 89 dB and 6 ohms. We couldn't find a spec sheet for the RS 1000 itself, so don't pay extra for an EMIT tweeter a listing claims it has. Treat it as a modest late-80s Infinity, and judge a pair by its condition and by whether both drivers play on both speakers.
There's no factory spec we could confirm, so the condition of the pair is everything. Check both drivers on both speakers and the woofer edges.
New to old speakers? How to check a used pair walks through every driver, the crossover and the cabinet.
We haven’t been through this model’s listings yet. Search eBay and run every listing through the checklist above. Ask for photos of both speakers with the grilles off and the serial labels on the back, and pass on any seller who won’t send them.
