Klipsch · Floorstander · 1985–1992
Klipsch sold the KG 4 from 1985 to 1992 as part of its KG series, a family that ran from the KG 1 to the KG 5.5 alongside the horn-loaded models the company is famous for. Klipsch describes it as a two-way floor-standing speaker, and its run spans the 1989 sale of the company from Paul Klipsch to his second cousin Fred. In 1992 the KG 4.2 replaced it, and that model's published spec gives you a sense of the family: a 10-inch woofer, a 10-inch passive radiator and a horn tweeter, rated at 95 dB and 8 ohms, at about 20 kilograms. We couldn't find a factory sheet for the KG 4 itself, so check the drivers in the seller's photos rather than assume they match the 4.2. Replacement crossovers and capacitor kits are sold for it, which helps if a pair needs work.
Like any speaker more than 30 years old, a KG 4 may need its crossover capacitors replaced, and KG4 crossovers and rebuild kits are sold. Ask whether that's been done, and look at the woofer edges in the photos.
New to old speakers? How to check a used pair walks through every driver, the crossover and the cabinet.
We haven’t been through this model’s listings yet. Search eBay and run every listing through the checklist above. Ask for photos of both speakers with the grilles off and the serial labels on the back, and pass on any seller who won’t send them.
